Traditionally, Christmas are covered with almond paste or marzipan, before being covered with a crisp white royal icing. And while they might be a little tricky to track down these days, I still have a lot of love for the adorable plastic toppers and embellishments that my grandmother used to use to adorn her cakes.
In this face-to-face cake decorating class, you will learn:
– How to prepare your cake for covering.
– How to cover your cake with marzipan or almond paste.
– How to make a traditional royal icing.
– How to apply your royal icing to your cake, with a variety of different finishes.
– How to apply the perfect finishing touches to ensure your cake is Christmas Day ready.
I will bake the cake for you to use during the class (unless you have already baked one with me), so there is no need to worry about getting the perfect bake. However, during the class you will receive a handy instruction pack, including all of the recipes you will need to recreate your Traditional Christmas Cake again at home. You will also be working on a reusable plastic cake drum which will be yours to keep and, of course, you will get to take the cake you create during the class home as well! Whether you choose to share it with anyone is up to you…
The class will be held at my dedicated Cooking, Baking and Cake Decorating Academy in the picturesque town of Fareham, Hampshire, conveniently located between Southampton and Portsmouth. Limited parking is available on site however, this will be offered on a first come first served basis.
You will be able to ask questions throughout the class, so you may wish to bring a notepad and pen with you to take notes.
Confirmation of your order will be emailed to you. Once you have paid for the class, keep an eye on your inbox and don’t forget to check those pesky junk folders!
